The X20CP1381 is a control and I/O processor module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Within a modular rack, it furnishes the computing resources needed to run real-time machine programs, preprocess local signal channels, and forward results to fieldbus masters. Its purpose is to consolidate distributed measurements and output commands into a compact DIN-rail package suited for automated equipment. By handling control tasks and local signal processing in one module, it supports compact machine layouts with fewer separate control components.
Its computing section is built around a Vx86EX CPU that operates at 200 MHz, giving deterministic cycle times for motion or process control. The controller is fitted with 128 MB DDR3 SDRAM for program variables and buffering, while recipes and other retained data reside in a 1 GB eMMC flash device. Nonvolatile process counters survive power loss in the integrated 16 kB FRAM. Two analog input channels accept 0–10 V or 4–20 mA signals, and a dedicated Pt1000 input channel allows temperature feedback from platinum resistance sensors. Digital resources include 14 standard inputs, 4 high-speed inputs, 4 mixed-function channels, and matching outputs with 4 standard, 4 high-speed, and 4 mixed channels. One expansion slot permits the addition of communication or specialty modules, and 2 W of X2X bus power is available for attached slices. This mix of memory and local channel capacity allows the processor to manage runtime data, retained values, and direct machine signals within the same station.
The module draws 4.8 W from a system supply of 24 VDC, so heat generation stays low inside compact cabinets. Its housing measures 99 mm in height, 164 mm in width, and 75 mm in depth, allowing side-by-side stacking with other X20 elements. These proportions leave clearance for front-side wiring and maintain airflow between neighboring slices. The low power requirement also allows the internal expansion slot and signal conditioners to operate without added cooling hardware. This form factor is suited to control cabinets where rail space and thermal headroom are limited.
