Product Description:
The X20CP0483 central processing unit is produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. It functions as the control node in a distributed I/O rack, running user tasks, handling deterministic communication, and issuing real-time responses to connected sensors and actuators. By embedding IEC 61131-3 logic directly on the rail, the module reduces network latency and keeps critical sequencing close to the machinery. This design makes it suitable for packaging lines, pick-and-place gantries, and other time-sensitive industrial applications that depend on coordinated control.
Thermal management is simplified because the controller uses a fanless design that relies on convection instead of serviceable fans. Network integration occurs through a single RJ45 interface that supports the Ethernet physical layer at 10/100BASE-T speeds, allowing standard switches to carry programming and HMI traffic. Application code and firmware reside on a built-in flash drive with 1 GB of nonvolatile capacity, while user variables and buffers use 256 MB of dynamic memory. The memory uses DDR3 technology to provide high-bandwidth access to the CPU core. These resources allow the device to host multitasking programs, store trend data locally, and reserve space for future updates without requiring replacement storage media.
Nonvolatile diagnostics and counters are preserved in a dedicated FRAM block with a capacity of 32 kB, providing high write endurance and data retention during power interruptions. Modular expansion is provided by a backplane connector with one X20 interface slot, allowing additional fieldbus couplers or specialty modules to be attached without external cabling. For auxiliary equipment, the unit offers two USB ports that accept service drives or operator panels. Legacy devices can be connected through one RS-232 port located beside the power header. The available connections allow the controller to support Ethernet-based communication and conventional serial equipment within the same compact assembly.
