Product Description:
The X20CP0482 is a compact central processing unit manufactured by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed on a DIN rail beside distributed I/O slices, the unit coordinates deterministic control tasks, communicates with higher-level networks, and exchanges real-time data with machine actuators and sensors. Its role in industrial automation is to execute application code, manage local fieldbus traffic, and provide standardized interfaces. These capabilities allow modular X20 nodes to be integrated into larger PLC- or PC-based architectures without additional gateway hardware.
An ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 300 MHz provides the computational core, and this 32-bit CPU handles cyclic logic, motion profiles, and diagnostic routines. Working memory consists of 128 MB of DDR3 memory, which stores the operating system and dynamic variables during runtime. Nonvolatile user space is provided by 1 GB of flash memory for system files, libraries, and application projects. A 16 kB FRAM area retains critical data across power cycles without battery support. The module uses a fanless aluminum housing, so it introduces no moving parts that could attract dust or require maintenance. Two USB host interfaces permit program loading or connection of service devices. The RS-232 port supports console access, while a dedicated POWERLINK channel connects deterministic motion or I/O rings.
Network connectivity is provided by a single Ethernet interface rated at 1 x 10/100BASE-T, enabling TCP/IP, OPC UA, or remote service through standard twisted-pair cabling. The controller draws logic power from a 24 VDC supply available on the X20 bus backplane, simplifying panel wiring in mixed-voltage cabinets. Its housing has an IP20 protection rating, which provides protection against finger contact but requires installation inside a control enclosure. Continuous horizontal operation is supported from -25 to 60 °C. The controller also remains functional at elevations up to 2,000 m above sea level, allowing deployment across a broad range of indoor production environments.
