Product Description:
The X20CP0420 is a compact control and communication module produced by B&R Automation for use with the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. Deployed at the heart of machine cells, the unit executes application code, exchanges real-time data with distributed I/O slices, and links the modular rack to higher-level networks. By combining processor resources with fieldbus connectivity in one plug-in slice, it coordinates motion, safety, and process tasks within industrial automation systems.
Heat is removed passively through a fanless enclosure, eliminating moving parts that could draw airborne debris into a cabinet. Network access is provided through one Ethernet port operating on the 10/100BASE-T standard, allowing the controller to negotiate either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps data rates with plant switches. Local program storage is contained in a 256 MB flash drive, providing space for the real-time kernel, operating software, and sizable user applications. Volatile task data is served by 128 MB of DDR3 RAM, giving the runtime enough bandwidth for deterministic control loops and buffer handling during high-frequency I/O scans.
Instruction execution is handled by an ARM Cortex A9-166-compatible core, so floating-point calculations and low-latency interrupts can be scheduled without external coprocessors. Machine counters, sequence flags, and diagnostic logs survive power cycling because the module carries 8 kB of FRAM, a nonvolatile memory suitable for frequent write operations. Legacy serial equipment, such as barcode readers, can be connected through one RS-232 port, while real-time ring or line topologies are supported by two integrated switch ports on the Ethernet interface. Two USB host ports are also available for service drives or human-machine interfaces when software updates or data logging are required.
