Product Description:
B & R Automation supplies the X20CP0410 CPU module for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The unit serves as the control core in a modular backplane, running user programs, managing real-time tasks, and coordinating distributed I/O islands inside industrial machinery and process skids. By storing the control application in onboard flash and exchanging data over the system bus, it removes the need for a separate rack-mount PLC while retaining deterministic execution for motion, safety, and sequencing duties. Its compact format also allows the controller to sit directly beside matching I/O slices in space-limited control cabinets.
An ARM Cortex A9-166 compatible processor drives the execution cycle and accesses program space held in 256 MB of flash memory. Dynamic variables reside in 128 MB DDR3 RAM, while 8 kB of FRAM maintains retentive data without battery backup. The electronics draw only 2.2 W from the I/O bus, which helps reduce heat buildup inside the cabinet. Environmental protection is classified as IP20, so the module is intended for installation inside a closed control panel. Physical dimensions are 37.5 mm in width, 75 mm in depth, and 99 mm in height, allowing high-density stacking alongside digital and analog slices. The assembly is rated for Overvoltage Category II, which suits low-energy secondary circuits. This combination of processing, working memory, and retained storage supports cyclic control tasks as well as stored operating data within one module.
Host connectivity is provided through 2 USB ports, and each port offers 5 V, 0.2 A for small peripherals. A separate 1x RS232 interface supports point-to-point service links or legacy devices that still rely on serial communication. The housing endures mechanical stresses up to 15 g of shock and 1 g of sinusoidal vibration, helping it remain stable on equipment with regular movement. This interface mix supports direct access for setup devices and simple serial connections without requiring an additional communication module. The shallow housing profile also helps the module fit cabinets where available installation depth is limited.
