Product Description:
The X20CM8281/T module is a multifunction I/O unit in the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series from B&R Automation. It combines analog sensing, analog command output, pulse counting, and digital signaling on a compact 24 mm slice. Installed beside other X20 stations, it links field devices to the controller bus for cycle-accurate data exchange in machinery, packaging lines, and process equipment. Its mixed-signal layout helps reduce the number of separate modules needed when one machine section must read sensors, count motion-related pulses, and switch discrete signals at the same location. Because these interfaces are consolidated in one housing, local wiring can stay shorter and panel density can remain high without spreading signal types across the rack.
For analog measurement, the module has one input with 12-bit resolution and supports ±10 V / 0-20 mA / 4-20 mA signal ranges. This input suits pressure, temperature, or position signals that change gradually and need direct acquisition at the I/O level. A matching analog output uses ±10 V / 0-20 mA to send commanded values to proportional field devices such as valves or speed-reference interfaces. This allows the controller to read process values and issue analog setpoints from the same module position. The module also includes 2 hardware counters, and these counters can track incremental marks for length or velocity measurement while remaining available for Event or Gate operation.
For discrete wiring, four inputs use a Sink configuration and accept 24 VDC signals from switches or relays. Two transistor outputs use a Source arrangement and can supply up to 0.5 A per channel at the same nominal control voltage. This allows the module to drive small field loads directly while using the same 24 VDC control architecture as the input side. The counter and digital functions can therefore be placed close to sensors and actuators on the same station segment. This arrangement is useful in compact machine sections where several signal types must be handled together without adding separate interface cards.
