Product Description:
The X20CM4810 is a vibration and condition-monitoring module from B&R Automation in the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Mounted on an X20 backplane, the device acquires analog signals from piezoelectric acceleration sensors and transfers the digitized data to the controller for predictive maintenance and machine diagnostics. By adding four simultaneous acceleration channels to the fieldbus, the module eliminates separate data loggers and brings high-speed spectral analysis directly into the automation network. This arrangement lets machine data be evaluated within the same control system that manages the rest of the process.
Each of the four input paths accepts differential IEPE acceleration signals while delivering a constant 5 mA sensor excitation. The front end samples all channels at 51.5625 kHz, and the data pass through a 24-bit converter so that even low-amplitude vibrations are preserved. A digital high-pass filter starts at 34 mHz, removing slow drift, while the configurable low-pass ceiling of 19.75 kHz suppresses aliasing and keeps the usable spectrum within the module’s 10 kHz evaluation band. Despite the high throughput, the module draws only 0.01 W from the X20 system bus. Dynamic signal processing is powered from an additional 2.5 W internal I/O rail, which separates measurement activity from the basic bus supply.
The analog front end employs a Sigma-Delta conversion scheme that enhances dynamic range and minimizes quantization noise during continuous monitoring. For reliability, the module includes open-circuit detection so that wiring faults are flagged to the controller without extra diagnostics. Field wiring is isolated from logic by an insulation rating of 500 Veff, and the housing meets the IP20 degree of protection for cabinet mounting. External supply is drawn from a system rail at 24 VDC ±20%, and the measurement circuit tolerates sensor amplitudes up to ±10 VAC without clipping. This makes the module suitable for continuous monitoring tasks where stable signal quality and direct fault reporting are important.
