The X20CM0985 is a mixed-signal I/O slice produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. It occupies a single slot on an X20 backplane and combines analog measurement, digital sourcing, and relay switching in one compact node. This combination allows a controller to monitor power rails and operate actuators without separate signal conditioners. Within an automated line, the module sends sampled values and output states to the network master over the fieldbus, allowing coordinated responses to changing machine conditions.
An analog converter with 16-bit resolution digitizes power-quality or process feedback for accurate monitoring. The module provides three current channels that support fault detection and scaling for connected current signals. It also includes eight voltage measurement points for phase or sensor connections. Each voltage channel supports a measurement span of ±480 V / 120 V, allowing connection to compatible low-voltage or line-level circuits. For current sensing, selectable ranges of 5 A / 1 A AC accommodate high-power feeders and instrumentation circuits without requiring external shunts or burden resistors. The separate analog channels allow voltage and current values to be processed through the same fieldbus node.
The module has five sourcing transistor outputs for discrete control signals. Each transistor output can supply up to 0.5 A from a 24 VDC field supply. Because the outputs use a sourcing configuration, connected loads return to ground rather than to the supply rail. A miniature relay provides an isolated switching path for supervisory functions. Its changeover contact supports either normally open or normally closed control logic, depending on the connected circuit. The installed relay can switch a resistive load of up to 1 A at field voltage. This arrangement allows the transistor outputs to energize compatible coils while the isolated relay handles a separate alarm, interlock, or supervisory circuit. The analog front end operates independently from the discrete output section, allowing measured power signals and control states to be handled through the same module without combining their electrical paths.
