Product Description:
The X20cIF1082-2 is a compact fieldbus interface card manufactured by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed on an X20 terminal segment, the card equips a machine network with deterministic POWERLINK messaging and embedded switch functionality, allowing the controller to exchange cyclic process data with remote I/O clusters. Within an automation cell, the product serves as a protocol boundary between motion controllers, safety PLCs, and sensor blocks. Its time-synchronized data updates support coordinated operation across connected machine components and distributed control devices.
The module integrates 2 hub ports that forward frames internally, so an additional external switch is unnecessary on short machine lines. One of these ports serves as a dedicated uplink, giving the host 1 POWERLINK interface for managing-node or controlled-node communication. Compliance with Overvoltage Category II provides insulation spacing suitable for low-voltage installations inside a control cabinet. The housing has an IP20 rating, protecting internal components from fingers and solid objects larger than 12.5 mm but not from water. Operation is permitted at moisture levels up to 100% RH with condensation because the populated circuit boards have a protective coating. Hot swapping is not supported, so the terminal segment must be de-energized before the module is removed. The enabled PRC function provides local process alarm handling, while built-in ring redundancy helps preserve network communication if one link is interrupted.
The module can operate at altitudes up to 2000 m above sea level, supporting installation in elevated industrial locations. It withstands mechanical shock of up to 15 g, helping the electronics tolerate brief impacts transmitted through a machine frame. Its vibration resistance is rated at 1 g for operation around moving equipment and cyclic machinery. The recommended CAT 5 SF/UTP cable combines foil shielding around the overall cable with shielding around the twisted pairs, helping protect network traffic from conducted electrical noise. This cable type also supports the stable frame transmission required for deterministic POWERLINK communication. The conformally coated electronics provide additional resistance to moisture in enclosed machine installations where condensation may occur during temperature changes.
