Product Description:
B & R Automation designs the X20cIF1061-1, a communication module in the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The module is intended for systems that integrate decentralized peripherals through one fieldbus channel. Mounted beside X20 power supplies and processor units, it acts as a bridge between the control CPU and connected devices by transferring cyclic process data and acyclic parameter data. This layout lets the local CPU exchange commands and status data with remote I/O, drives, and other distributed equipment without requiring a separate communication processor. Deterministic response times and hot-swap capability help keep the control platform available when a module must be replaced or added during planned service.
At the protocol layer, the module functions in Master mode, allowing it to initiate bus cycles on a PROFIBUS DP network. Compatibility with the V0/V1 specification supports both simple I/O devices and intelligent nodes that use extended diagnostics. The housing provides 1 interface at the front, which helps conserve rack space in compact assemblies. Setup is streamlined through DTM configuration, so parameter data can be loaded from FDT-compatible engineering tools without manual byte-by-byte entry. That arrangement supports regular process traffic while still allowing acyclic access for parameter adjustments and diagnostic reads during operation.
The module is approved for installation from 0 to 2000 m above sea level, supporting use across a wide range of plant elevations. It can be installed next to Expandable Bus Controllers, which provide the power and supervisory signals required for additional nodes, and it also works with Controllers With Interface Modules to extend fieldbus access without changing the main control concept. A readable Bus Role attribute in the diagnostic data reports the current operating state to supervisory software and simplifies fault tracing when communication behavior changes. This makes operating status easier to verify when the network is starting, exchanging data, or reporting a communication fault.
