The X20cDO4332 digital output module is produced by B & R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. As a four-channel sourcing unit, it switches low-voltage actuators such as solenoid valves or indicator lamps under PLC control. Within an automation cabinet this small plug-in module provides galvanic isolation between the controller backplane and the field power side, allowing deterministic on/off control in distributed I/O stations linked to real-time Ethernet or proprietary X2X networks.
Each channel delivers up to 2 A at 24 VDC, and the module offers 4 individually short-circuit protected outputs. The integrated high-side driver exhibits an on-state resistance of only 140 mΩ, limiting power dissipation during continuous conduction and reducing enclosure heat rise. Field wiring terminates on spring clamps rated for Category II overvoltage installations; the IP20 protection rating reflects the need for mounting inside a closed cabinet. Operation remains stable even when ambient relative humidity reaches 100 percent because condensation is permitted. In addition, the circuitry tolerates mains surges typical of industrial plants, while internal diagnostics report output status and fault conditions to the controller.
Environmental endurance supports mobile or high-density equipment. Horizontal mounting is allowed up to 60 °C, while vertical orientation must stay within 50 °C, and service continues down to -25 °C for cold-start situations. Altitudes up to 2000 m do not derate the driver stage. Mechanical resilience is specified at 15 g shock and 1 g vibration, enabling use on machine frames that experience rapid indexing or tool changes. These limits, combined with full humidity tolerance, help maintain switching accuracy across the module’s lifetime without requiring additional dampers or climate conditioning.
