Product Description:

The X20cDM9324 is a compact digital I/O slice produced by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. By combining input and output points on a single carrier, the unit allows a controller to acquire field signals and drive actuators from the same housing. Mounted on the X20 backplane beside CPU and power segments, it relays 24-volt switching states over the real-time system bus. This arrangement streamlines cabinet layouts in distributed industrial automation systems while reducing the number of separate modules needed for basic input and output functions.

It offers 8 optocoupled digital input channels that use a sinking wiring scheme, meaning the field device draws current into the module when the contact closes. Each input has a nominal rating of 24 VDC, allowing direct connection to sensors, switches, and proximity detectors commonly installed on machine panels. On the output side, the card uses a sourcing topology, so the module supplies power to the connected load. Every output transistor can deliver up to 0.5 A continuously, which is sufficient to energize contactors, indicator lamps, or low-power pneumatic valves. The module includes short-circuit and overload diagnostics that help identify electrical faults affecting the output channels. Its galvanic isolation separates the field supply from the backplane and helps protect the controller from disturbances in field wiring.

The module also includes 4 high-side switching outputs, allowing it to control several field loads from one backplane position. It functions as a Digital Mixed Module that consolidates both signal directions into one slot and reduces overall rack width. Input and output states are transferred through the X20 system bus for use by the connected controller. Configuration tools assign the applicable parameter set and channel images when the module is added to the system. Integrated LED status indicators provide a visible indication of channel operation and detected faults, supporting faster diagnosis without requiring access to individual field devices.
