Product Description:
The X20cDI4375 is a digital input slice produced by B&R Automation for installation in the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series backplane. Classified as a compact I/O device, it collects 24 V control signals from sensors, switches, and interlock contacts and forwards those signals to the main controller through the X20 system bus. By converting field-level states into deterministic telegrams, the module simplifies wiring in distributed automation panels and helps the PLC monitor machine safety chains and process flags.
This model accepts a nominal field supply of 24 VDC, so its wiring aligns with the common control voltage used in industrial cabinets. It provides 4 individual channels, allowing one slice to serve a small group of valves or light curtains without wasting rack space. Each channel supports a sink configuration, in which the sensor pulls current toward ground while the module processes the resulting input state. The slice functions as a digital input module, so it evaluates binary states while debounce timing is handled through the controller task rather than onboard electronics. An integrated open-circuit detection system supervises every terminal and raises a diagnostic flag if field wiring breaks, helping operators identify faults in conveyors and packaging equipment.
The module also includes short-circuit detection, which disables the affected input when excessive current is detected and prevents the fault from disrupting the other channels. It can operate in ambient moisture levels of up to 100% RH with condensation, allowing cabinets without forced-air circulation to be installed near washdown zones where humidity can remain high for extended periods. A conformal protective coating covers the internal traces, helping shield the electronics from corrosive vapors, conductive dust, and moisture produced by changing temperatures. The modular bus connection allows the slice to operate in decentralized I/O islands while exchanging input states and diagnostic data with the main controller. Its compact channel arrangement also reduces the amount of unused I/O capacity when a machine section requires only a few monitored signals.
