Product Description:
The X20CBM32 bus module is produced by B & R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input and Output Modules series. It serves as the physical backbone of a node by providing the internal communication channel between individual I/O slices. Its power-routing paths also connect those slices to the overarching fieldbus network in an automated machine cell.
The module functions as an active bus station, so it terminates the segment electronics and manages address handoff to the next station. Signal continuity is maintained through a bus data contact that carries serial protocol lines from one slice to the next, while the separate bus supply contact carries the internal 24 V system rail. The module uses a 240 VAC voltage profile for keying against the cabinet feeder, which prevents accidental insertion into low-level cores. The carrier snaps onto an EN 60715 (TH35-7.5) mounting rail, aligning the backplane contacts with adjacent modules. Power to the sensor and actuator terminals passes directly through the module, allowing the I/O power path to continue across the slice. A dedicated I/O supply contact allows auxiliary current to be daisy-chained without additional wiring.
Protective earth is connected through the top-hat rail, giving the housing a direct ground return for electromagnetic compatibility control. The housing tolerates relative humidity of up to 100% RH, allowing installation in sealed enclosures where condensation can occur during washdown cycles. Its double-width form factor provides space for the dual power paths while preserving the standard series height. A factory-applied protective coating shields the printed circuit board from moisture and flux residue, helping protect it during cyclic temperature changes. The module supports rack replacement, allowing an entire slice to be removed and exchanged without disturbing the wiring on neighboring modules.
