Product Description:
The X20CBM01 communication adapter is produced by B&R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. This module forms the physical backbone between a distributed slice of X20 I/O electronics and the selected fieldbus, allowing sensors and actuators on the rail to exchange data with a PLC in real time. Inserting the carrier into an X20 terminal group provides a compact interface that supports both power distribution and backplane signaling.
The module draws its control power through a keyed 24 VDC supply, preventing accidental connection to an incompatible voltage on the rail. Its IP20 enclosure rating limits use to protected electrical cabinets while providing protection against accidental contact with internal components. When mounted horizontally, the permitted ambient temperature ranges from -25 °C to 60 °C, supporting cold starts and stable operation in compact panels. Installation is supported at elevations up to 2000 m without derating, so facilities at higher elevations do not require additional cooling measures. Cooling relies solely on natural convection, so the specified mounting orientation and required clearances must be maintained to prevent localized heat buildup around the module.
For vertical mounting, the maximum ambient temperature is 50 °C, and the module can continue operating when moisture condenses on exposed surfaces. Its electronic assemblies withstand shocks of up to 15 g and continuous vibration of 1 g, allowing installation near stamping presses or on mobile equipment exposed to recurring mechanical movement. Relative humidity can reach 100% without impairing operation, provided the surrounding atmosphere does not contain corrosive pollutants that could damage contacts or conductive paths. Surge exposure is limited to Overvoltage Category II, which corresponds to the insulation clearances incorporated into the carrier. Because the internal I/O path on the left side is interrupted, the module must be placed at the end of the segment toward the controller to maintain communication through the remaining backplane connection.
