Product Description:
The X20cBC0083 is a compact bus controller manufactured by B&R Automation for use in the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. Installed at the left end of an X20 remote station, it establishes the POWERLINK real-time Ethernet connection and manages cyclic data exchange between a central PLC and the I/O slices that follow it. By combining the network interface and local backplane master in a single housing, the device streamlines distributed control wiring and allows machine builders to scale channel counts without reconfiguring higher-level application code.
The module draws only 2 W of bus power, so it imposes a minimal thermal and supply load inside crowded cabinets. Network cabling is handled through a pair of RJ45 jacks; the upper port receives the incoming line, while the lower port forwards traffic to the next node through the integrated hub. One dedicated POWERLINK interface controls real-time telegrams, and the hub maintains full-duplex communication across both lines. When the carrier is mounted horizontally, it tolerates ambient temperatures up to 60 °C, whereas a vertical installation is limited to 50 °C. Cold starts remain possible down to -25 °C. The housing carries an IP20 rating and belongs to overvoltage category II, making it suitable for installation in protective enclosures with basic surge protection.
Continuous operation is permitted at elevations up to 2000 m without derating, allowing the controller to operate in machinery installed at higher elevations. The electronics withstand up to 100% relative humidity under condensing conditions. Mechanical durability is verified for sinusoidal vibration of 1 g, allowing the controller to operate on moving carriages or gantries exposed to continuous motion. It also withstands shock events reaching 15 g, which helps protect its internal components from sudden impacts during machine operation. These operating limits support deterministic fieldbus communication in humid environments and applications subject to vibration or mechanical shock.
