Product Description:
The X20CAT4222 is a temperature measurement input module for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series from B&R Automation. The carrier backplane power and interface connectors remain consistent with the rest of the X20 family, which helps it fit into mixed signal racks without special wiring changes. Designed for mounting on the X20 backplane, it acquires resistance-based sensor signals and passes the digitized data to the controller over the system bus. In industrial automation, the unit provides accurate temperature feedback so drives, process loops, and safety interlocks can respond to changing thermal conditions in real time.
The module offers 4 independent input channels, allowing simultaneous monitoring of multiple machine zones. Each channel uses a resistance measurement method, so the internal electronics excite the sensor, measure the voltage drop, and calculate temperature directly. With a resolution of 0.1°C, small thermal changes are detectable and can support tighter process control during heating or cooling cycles. Compatibility with Pt100 and Pt1000 sensors allows flexibility when matching the module to common platinum sensing elements used in industrial equipment. Sealed circuitry tolerates ambient humidity up to 100% condensing; this allows operation in humid production spaces where moisture can be present around the control cabinet.
Continuous vibration levels of 1 g and shock incidents up to 15 g are permissible, so normal machine motion or occasional impacts are less likely to disturb measurement stability. The electronics remain within specified limits up to 2000 m altitude, which supports use in elevated facilities without additional derating language in the installation plan. An IP20 housing confines live conductors while still permitting convection cooling inside the cabinet. Category II overvoltage classification and the protective coating help the module withstand transient electrical disturbances and airborne contamination that can occur in everyday factory environments.
