The X20BM21 is a power supply bus module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus I/O Modules series. Installed at the left end of an X20 slice, it forms the electrical backbone that carries internal supply and field voltage to adjacent I/O units, enabling distributed control cabinets to share a single 24 VDC source. By integrating the supply path and mechanical alignment in one piece, the module simplifies expansion of machine-level I/O stations in industrial automation lines. Its role is focused on distributing power across the station, so neighboring modules can be added in an orderly layout without separate bridging parts between each slice.
Electrically, the bus module is rated for a nominal system voltage of 24 VDC, aligning with common control-cabinet power rails. The copper conductors and spring contacts can carry up to 10 A, so several high-density output modules may be powered without external jumpers. Despite that load capacity, its own bus power consumption is only 0.13 W; therefore, the unit introduces negligible heat into the enclosure. Ingress protection is classified as IP20, which indicates finger-safe live parts and requires installation inside a closed panel. A mechanical pitch of 25 +0.2 mm matches the standard X20 carrier profile, helping the power pins seat correctly when the slice is latched to the DIN rail.
From a system-integration perspective, the internal I/O supply is interrupted to the left, so the module isolates the preceding voltage group while energizing the modules on its right side. This segmentation is complemented by compatibility with double-width modules, allowing wide communication interfaces and standard I/O units to share the same rail arrangement. The housing supports horizontal or vertical mounting, which helps fit panels with limited depth or height. The inclusion of voltage group support allows separate source segments to be restarted independently after a fault. That arrangement can help keep unaffected sections of a station available while the interrupted group is checked and returned to service.
