Product Description:
The X20BM15 is a bus module produced by B&R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Within an X20 slice, it forms the mechanical and electrical backbone that allows signal and power carriers to pass from the field level to the controller rack's internal bus. By serving as the first station on the backplane, it provides a fieldbus interface for combining distributed I/O nodes into scalable machine control systems.
Its internal electronics draw just 0.13 W, which helps limit heat buildup inside compact cabinets. I/O keying is fixed at 24 VDC, so only matching power feeds can be connected to the segment. The design has an overvoltage category of II, placing it at the impulse withstand level commonly used in industrial control circuits. The housing is rated IP20, which helps prevent accidental finger contact with live parts while still requiring an enclosure for protection against dust and splashing water. During transport and installation, the module can withstand shocks up to 15 g. In operation, it functions as an active bus station, and the I/O supply path is connected through so downstream modules can receive field voltage without separate wiring.
Mechanical integration is straightforward because the enclosure snaps onto a top-hat rail, allowing quick installation and removal without tools. Address selection is handled locally by a node number switch, which allows the logical position on the fieldbus to be set directly on the module. Spring-loaded terminals with a push-in connection style accept solid or ferruled conductors for fast, vibration-secure wiring. This arrangement supports the specified continuous vibration resistance of 1 g during operation.
