Product Description:
The X20BM12 bus module is produced by B & R Automation and belongs to the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. As a modular fieldbus coupler, it forms the backbone of an X20 slice by transferring back-plane data between the host controller and the connected I/O slices. In distributed automation cabinets the unit provides the physical address and power feed that let digital and analog terminals share a common communication path. The module type is explicitly identified as a bus module, so it contains no local signal conditioning elements and focuses on protocol timing and power distribution.
Thermal limits start at -25°C for cold starts and reach 60°C when the carriers are mounted horizontally; a vertical stack lowers the ceiling to 50°C because chimney effects reduce heat dissipation. Within these ranges the housing maintains a IP20 ingress rating, so finger-safe terminals remain protected against solid objects but the assembly must be installed in a closed cabinet. A vibration tolerance of 1 g allows the module to ride on standard machine frames without extra damping. Mounting orientation can be horizontal or vertical, and the internal I/O path is connected straight through, meaning power and serial data reach every neighboring slice without additional jumpers. Overvoltage category II labeling guides the selection of transient suppression on supply rails.
Environmental margins extend further: functional integrity is guaranteed up to 2000 m elevation and at a relative humidity of 95% provided the air remains non-condensing. Transport and installation shocks up to 15 g are tolerated, safeguarding connectors during panel handling. Mechanical keying coded for 240 VAC prevents accidental insertion into rows carrying incompatible voltages, while still letting the back-plane clips lock with standard tool-free latches.
