Product Description:
The X20BM01 bus module is manufactured by B&R Automation for use within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Positioned at the left edge of an I/O slice, it forms the electrical backbone that distributes 24 VDC supply and communication signals to neighboring electronic modules. In machine-level automation, its role is to couple the backplane power rail to the fieldbus segment so that sensors, actuators, and processing units can be powered and addressed through a single compact assembly. This arrangement reduces external wiring along the module row.
During operation, the module draws only 0.13 W from the control cabinet supply, a figure that minimizes heat rise on densely packed DIN rails. The backplane is rated for a nominal input of 24 VDC, allowing direct connection to standard control power networks without additional transformers. Output conductors on the internal copper layer can pass up to 10 A, so consecutive I/O slices receive adequate current for relay coils or valve terminals. An enclosure rating of IP20 restricts its use to protected electrical enclosures, yet permits tool-free access to spring-clamp terminals. Mechanical alignment uses a slot pitch of 12.5 +0.2 mm, ensuring that each module in the row mates correctly with the integrated edge connectors and maintains consistent air gaps for convection cooling.
Power continuity is handled by an internal I/O supply line that is interrupted on the left side, preventing back-feed from downstream electronics when the X20BM01 is removed. The housing can be installed in either horizontal or vertical orientation, giving panel layouts more flexibility when space limitations require a stacked or side-by-side arrangement. As a Power Supply Bus Module, it contains no discrete input or output channels and instead focuses on energizing the baseboard and propagating fieldbus signals through gold-plated contacts. Precision-molded guides incorporate coding fixtures that match the 24 VDC keying slots, preventing accidental insertion of higher-voltage components during maintenance.
