Product Description:
The X20BC8084 is a module manufactured by B & R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It forms part of an I/O slice where a POWERLINK network is used to coordinate sensors and actuators with higher-level control equipment. Its role is to present the fieldbus interface and to distribute 24 VDC supply lines to the adjoining electronic modules on a DIN rail.
The fieldbus connection follows the POWERLINK protocol, so cyclic process data and acyclic parameters share the same Ethernet physical layer without proprietary wiring. Two autosensing channels are made available through 2 RJ45 ports, allowing line or ring wiring topologies and quick replacement when network segments are rearranged. The module draws its electronics and back-plane energy from a 24 VDC supply, and this nominal voltage is passed to adjacent slices to simplify cabinet wiring. Mechanical fixing uses the EN 60715 (TH35-7.5) rail profile, enabling tool-free insertion onto the common 35 mm steel support in control panels. Because an integrated power supply is present, no external conditioning card is required for the local logic and bus circuitry.
For larger node counts, the X20BC8084 cooperates with Active X20 Hub Modules, and status changes can be isolated with the built-in 1 link selector, which directs the incoming link to the active branch during redundancy switchover. In multi-segment installations, deterministic timing is maintained because B & R Automation supports cable redundancy through a second POWERLINK path rather than additional protocols. All sub-modules that attach to the bus controller use the same electrical format and operating limits as the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules, providing a consistent envelope for wiring, labeling, and service access.
