Product Description:
The X20BC1083 is a bus controller manufactured by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It attaches to the left end of an X20 I/O slice and translates local backplane signals into deterministic Ethernet telegrams so distributed sensors, valves, and drives can be supervised by a central controller over a real-time POWERLINK segment. This arrangement lets the controller exchange process data with distributed devices while keeping the local module stack synchronized with the network cycle. By occupying the first position in the node, the unit establishes the electrical power feed and the communication clock for every subsequent I/O module in the assembly.
The housing has a depth of 75 mm, allowing installation in shallow control cabinets while maintaining clearance for field wiring. That compact depth helps when rail space is limited and cable routing must remain orderly near the front of the cabinet. It accepts additional functional slices as X20 Interface Modules, and a card guide built into the side walls supports exactly 2 expansion slots to keep the stack aligned when it is extended. The unit presents a single POWERLINK connection, so the network master sees one fieldbus interface and node addressing remains straightforward on the real-time bus.
The overall height is 99 mm, matching the standard X20 profile so mixed racks maintain a uniform rail pitch. Two internal Ethernet switch elements create the required line topology and provide integrated hub functionality through the slice stack without an external switch. This internal switching allows incoming and outgoing traffic to pass through the station while preserving the compact layout of the node. The uplink and downlink connectors are standard RJ45 jacks, and the module provides two network ports for daisy-chain wiring and quick line restoration if a cable is replaced.
