Product Description:

The X20BC0143-10 module works with POWERLINK bus systems; gets its power from a 24 VDC source, and normally needs 2.5 watts of power. This is one of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules made by B & R Automation. It is supposed to be placed on a DIN rail and operates at 100 Mbit/s Ethernet speed. Before the hardware is physically put in or taken out, there must be no voltage on any of the connectors on the I/O plate. If there is still current in the pins, it might flash into an arc, break circuit traces, or, worse, shock an unsuspecting operator. The operating software for the controller must clearly allow that sort of module to be hot-swapped. If the device goes missing, the logic stack may see the gap as a failure and stop production immediately, causing a complete system reset. While in use, programmable logic controllers, operator touch panels, and uninterruptible power supply sometimes carry several hundred volts.

Wherever feasible, put grounded metal plates or lexan shields around all active buses. Access holes are then guarded by spring-loaded latches that only work with a unique key. Before taking off any protective cover, follow lockout/tagout rules that cut off the feed and put conspicuous, tamper-proof warnings on it. As far as the Bus System is concerned, the X20BC0143-10 fully supports “PowerLink” configuration. While operating at full capacity, the module will draw a peak current of 2.5 watts. About communication, the X20BC0143-10 is able to communicate at speeds of up to 100 Mbit/seconds over Ethernet protocol. Instead of a flange mount, this industrial module supports a DIN Rail mounting configuration.
