Product Description:
The X20BC0088 bus controller is produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Installed at the head of an X20 slice, it links the local backplane to an external Ethernet network so that programmable controllers can exchange process data with distributed I/O points in real time. The compact housing and DIN-rail format make it suitable for control cabinets where machine builders need a direct way to add networked I/O. It handles communication between the local module stack and the plant network without requiring a separate communication coupler. This layout helps keep the station compact while still supporting distributed automation tasks across machine cells and production lines.
Network resources are concentrated on two switched Ethernet ports that terminate in 2x RJ45 connectors and support a single 1 EtherNet/IP fieldbus channel. The ports use CAT 5 SF/UTP cabling, and the integrated switch allows line topology without extra hardware. Because the switch is built in, the network can continue through the station in a simple daisy-chain arrangement. With an IP20 protection rating and an overvoltage rating of category II, the module is intended for installation inside a grounded control cabinet. In horizontal mounting, ambient temperature can reach 60 °C, while vertical orientation is limited to 50 °C. The internal design has no rotating parts, so operation does not rely on fan-based cooling.
Environmental limits cover colder facilities down to -25 °C and elevations reaching 2000 m above sea level. Humidity may rise to 95% RH without condensation, which supports operation where moisture levels change during production shifts. During transport or installation, shocks up to 15 g are accepted, helping protect the electronics when panels are moved and positioned. The altitude limit helps preserve stable operation in higher installations. The humidity limit assumes that moisture does not condense on internal components during use.
