Product Description:
The X20BB62 bus base is produced by B & R Automation and belongs to the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Within an X20 slice, it provides the mechanical and electrical foundation for a single electronics module and links the removable terminal block at the front to the backplane bus. By snapping onto a DIN top-hat rail, it anchors power and field I/O wiring and supports modular station layouts used in distributed machine control. It also passes fieldbus signals and supply lines through the station so neighboring modules remain connected to the controller. This arrangement helps keep the station orderly when multiple slices are mounted side by side.
In operation, the base itself draws only 0.94 W, which helps limit heat inside densely populated cabinets. An integrated RS232 maintenance port is routed through the front, so diagnostic access is available without removing the I/O stack. The detachable terminal block has 12 spring-cage pins, and the keying is set for 24 VDC to prevent insertion of a mismatched block. The upstream expansion connector accepts one X20 Interface Module, allowing local fieldbus adaptation without extra external cabling. The front-facing layout also keeps terminal access clear in narrow cabinet rows.
The backplane is designed for 1 expansion slot, which fixes the physical limit of the segment at this base position. Installation on a Top-Hat Rail allows the unit to snap into place securely, and the release latch can be operated with a tool while adjacent electronics stay in place. The base is qualified for the Compact-S Controller, and its role as a Bus Base means it performs passive routing only while signal processing remains in the mounted electronics module. That separation lets the base serve as a common carrier for different X20 module functions. The unit therefore focuses on connection and distribution rather than measurement, control logic, or signal conversion.
