Product Description:
The X20BB52 is a communication and bus interface module produced by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It serves as a system coupler that links distributed I/O slices to the main controller and routes power and data across the rack. By embedding fieldbus connectivity in a narrow housing, the unit supports compact machine cabinets while maintaining deterministic data exchange between sensors, actuators, and the Compact-S controller environment. This role makes it a central interface point for nodes that need consistent communication across a modular automation assembly.
During operation, the module draws 0.55 W from the internal X20 backplane, so heat dissipation inside a tightly packed node remains minimal. An integrated RS232 interface is provided on the front edge, giving a simple serial channel for diagnostics or local data transfer without extra expansion cards. The housing width of 37.5 mm sets the cabinet pitch required for each slice, while its depth of 75 mm helps the board stack clear neighboring wiring ducts. A vertical height of 99 mm aligns with other X20 modules, allowing uninterrupted DIN-rail mounting across the line and helping adjacent components fit into a uniform layout.
For electrical safety, the module is classified in overvoltage category II, meaning it is intended for circuits supplied from a secondary distribution level rather than direct utility feeds. Touch-safe construction is reinforced by a protection rating of IP20, so the enclosure blocks finger contact but still requires installation inside a control cabinet. The keyed backplane segment transfers logic voltage preset for 24 VDC, which helps prevent accidental insertion into higher-potential rails. The module has 12 spring-clamp terminals that accommodate signal lines to the Compact-S controller and its dedicated power supply unit, allowing the supported assembly to be wired without adapters.
