The X20BB37 base module is manufactured by B&R Automation as part of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It serves as the mechanical carrier and shared backplane for hot-swappable I/O slices in a remote station. By routing fieldbus signals and the internal 24 V power rail through its built-in connectors, the unit supports orderly station expansion and reduces the need for separate internal jumpers between adjacent modules. This layout helps keep the assembly compact while maintaining a clear structure for distributed control hardware.
Bus load is limited to 0.56 W, so the module adds very little thermal demand inside the enclosure. Because the incoming supply is rated at 24 VDC, it connects directly to the standard logic power used in most industrial control panels. The housing carries an IP20 protection class, which means it is intended for installation in clean, enclosed spaces. Internal copper tracks and spring contacts are rated for a continuous system current of 10 A, matching the power transfer expected across neighboring modules. A profile pitch of 62.5 mm preserves alignment when several bases are mounted on the DIN rail. The base provides 1 CAN connection, which keeps the bus path straightforward, and a dedicated slot behind the cover accepts one interface module for controller-specific communication.
Altitude limits affect thermal behavior during operation. Up to 2000 m above sea level, no output reduction is required, but above that height the allowable ambient temperature must be reduced by 0.5 °C per 100 m of additional elevation. The CAN line uses an integrated termination resistor, so correct bus impedance is maintained without external terminating hardware. A single RS-232 service port is also present for controller diagnostics, and no additional derating applies to the current-carrying contacts under these stated conditions.
