Product Description:
The X20BB37 is a robust B&R Industrial Automation bus base module that serves as a backbone for other unit modules. Its main function is to hold X20 Fieldbus CPUs, power modules, or interface modules. Unlike other basic bus base modules, the X20BB37 provides two interfaces for serial communication. These two interfaces are dedicated to establishing RS232 and CAN bus communication. The CAN bus interface for this bus base module also integrates a terminating resistor. Terminating resistors are crucial for CAN serial communication because they prevent signals from reflecting back to the source. Aside from its interfaces, it also comes with the rudimentary accessories, X20AC0SL1 and X20AC0SR1, which are the left and right cover plates.
The X20BB37's I/O supply requires a terminal potential difference of 24 volts while allowing only a contact load of up to 10 amps. During rated operation, this module's bus draws 0.56 watts to carry out its intended function. No other actuators or components contribute to the total power consumption of the X20BB37. Although it provides interfaces for RS232 and CAN bus communication, isolation between these interfaces and the main bus is not supported. The terminating resistor provided for the CAN bus may be toggled using a mechanical switch. For this bus base module, the recommended spacing is 62.5 millimeters.
To prolong the X20BB37's lifespan, it is recommended to adhere to the specified temperature ranges, whether during operation, transport, or storage. Specifically, the recommended temperature range for this bus base module during operation is between -25 and 60 degrees Celsius. To safely store and transport this base module, the environmental temperature at any time must be within -40 to 80 degrees Celsius.
Frequently Asked Questions about X20BB37:
Q: What mounting orientations does the X20BB37 support?
A: The X20BB37 supports both horizontal and vertical mounting orientations. X20 devices such as the X20BB37 are commonly mounted on a DIN rail.
Q: What degree of protection does the X20BB37 have?
A: As a compact X20 module, the X20BB37 is immune to particulates up to a certain diameter. However, it is not resistant to liquid. Based on its datasheet, its casing provides IP 20 degree of protection.
Q: What interfaces does the X20BB37 have?
A: The X20BB37 has two dedicated interfaces for establishing CAN bus and RS232 serial communication.
Q: Why are terminating resistors important for CAN bus communication?
A: The terminating resistor provided on the X20BB37 is important for ensuring that the CAN bus signal goes only in the intended direction. Since the CAN bus is a two-way communication, the terminating resistor ensures the signal is terminated upon successful delivery.
Q: Which slot in the X20BB37 is for the bus controller?
A: For the X20BB37, the rightmost slot houses the main bus controller. Other slots and interfaces can be used for other X20 modules.
