Product Description:
The X20ATA492 is a temperature acquisition module produced by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Designed for distributed control systems, the unit plugs into an X20 backplane and relays precise process temperature data to a PLC or industrial PC over the system bus. By providing direct thermocouple connectivity, it removes the need for separate signal conditioners and allows compact installation inside machine cabinets. In industrial automation, it serves as a remote analog input that supports closed-loop thermal regulation in ovens, extruders, and environmental chambers.
The module accepts thermocouple sensors on its two input channels. Each channel has single-channel galvanic isolation, so common-mode voltages on one probe do not influence the other channel or the system ground. For direct measurement, it provides 2 thermocouple inputs that support standard type J, K, or T elements. Onboard cold-junction compensation is handled by 2 integrated Pt1000 sensors positioned near the terminals. When synchronized processes require consistent timestamps, the built-in Nettime function embeds a hardware time tag in every frame. This feature allows the controller to align temperature samples with motion or pressure data without requiring additional software sorting.
The housing carries an IP20 protection rating against finger contact and is intended for installation inside a suitable control cabinet. When installed horizontally, the module can operate at temperatures up to 60 °C; the upper limit is 50 °C when it is mounted vertically. Continuous operation is supported at temperatures as low as -25 °C, allowing use during refrigerated startup conditions. The module also operates at up to 95 percent noncondensing humidity. It withstands vibration loads of 1 g and shock loads of up to 15 g. Safety coordination follows Overvoltage Category II, and reliable temperature readings are supported at installation elevations of up to 2,000 meters.
