Product Description:

The X20AT6402 temperature input module is produced by B&R Automation as a member of the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It is a dedicated I/O slice that converts low-level thermocouple signals into scaled digital data for the X20 control bus, allowing temperature feedback to be integrated into closed-loop automation tasks such as heating control, process monitoring, or machine protection. That arrangement allows the control system to combine thermal feedback with other machine I/O on the same backplane.

This module provides 6 input channels, so a single slice can supervise six measurement points without additional hardware. Each channel accepts a thermocouple sensor, enabling direct connection of type-specific thermocouples without external transmitters. The conversion resolution is 0.1 °C, which means the CPU receives temperature values in tenth-degree steps for fine regulation. When the carrier rail is mounted in the usual horizontal orientation, the electronics can operate from -25 to 60 °C; with a vertical rail orientation, the range changes to -25 to 50 °C because convection airflow is reduced. These limits set the permissible ambient temperature around the control cabinet and help protect the precision amplifier circuitry from drift.

Installations can be located at an operating elevation of 0 to 2000 m; beyond this height, derating rules for insulation coordination apply. Field wiring is simplified by push-in terminals, allowing solid or ferruled conductors to be locked without a tool. For paired conductors, the cage accepts 2 × 0.75 mm² wire sleeves, so supply and sensor return leads can share a single contact. Compatibility with B&R Automation backplanes lets the CPU read diagnostic flags and raw temperature counts through the standard X20 bus without additional interface hardware.
