The X20AP3132 is a power acquisition module manufactured by B&R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. It occupies a single slot on an X20 terminal rail and converts phase-voltage and current signals into digital values that a PLC can read through the system bus. By delivering synchronized electrical data, the module supports load profiling, energy allocation, and protective logic in industrial automation cells. It integrates directly with the existing fieldbus stack, reducing the need for separate equipment and simplifying panel layouts. External current transformers connect the monitored conductors to the module’s current inputs.
The voltage stage provides 3 measurement channels, each designed for line potentials up to 480 VAC. These channels track mains operating at 50/60 Hz, allowing the same module to serve installations that use either common utility frequency without jumper changes. A mechanical coding element keyed at 240 V helps prevent accidental insertion into positions intended for lower-rated hardware. On the current side, the module accepts 4 separate inputs that are internally referenced to the sampled voltages, allowing true phase relationships to be maintained during power calculations. Each current conductor is routed through an external transformer before reaching the spring terminal. This arrangement isolates the module electronics while preserving the measurement bandwidth needed to monitor changing loads.
Every current channel accepts up to 5 A AC, providing sufficient input capacity for compatible current transformers without auxiliary shunts. An internal digital signal processor performs an effective value calculation during every cycle and stores the result alongside an apparent energy accumulator that increases according to selectable integration periods. The module also derives active, reactive, and apparent power from the sampled voltage and current vectors. These results are time-stamped through the synchronized NetTime function, allowing measurements from multiple modules to be aligned across the control system. A dedicated grounding lug allows the front end to be bonded to protective earth. Proper bonding helps reduce common-mode noise when measurement wiring extends across long cable runs or passes near electrically noisy equipment.
