The X20AP3121 is a power and energy measurement module produced by B & R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Designed for DIN-rail mounting beside digital and analog slices, it captures real-time electrical parameters of three-phase supplies and streams the computed values onto the system bus. The measured data can be used to balance loads and trigger alarms when voltage or current exceed preset limits in automated machinery.
The module provides 4 AC inputs for current sensing and accepts three voltage taps so it can evaluate a three-phase network. Current is sampled with 1 mA resolution, while voltage is digitized down to 10 mV, giving the controller fine granularity for small signal changes. It tolerates line frequencies of 50 or 60 Hz and supports a rated secondary current of 1 A that matches typical external current transformers. The same 1 A limit is also the maximum measuring current for direct connection. Phase conductors can be measured at up to 480 VAC line-to-line or 277 VAC line-to-neutral. Internally, the module recognizes up to 655 VAC as its maximum display value, and a 500 Ω input burden is built in so external shunts are unnecessary.
Overall measurement precision is governed by an active energy error of ±0.40%, which is suitable for production-level energy accounting. The analog front end presents a 1.68 MΩ voltage input impedance, keeping loading on the monitored circuit low. During operation the device dissipates only 2 W, so thermal rise inside crowded cabinets stays low. Housing seams and connectors comply with the IP20 protection rating, indicating finger-safe terminals but no sealing against moisture. The 25 mm + 0.2 mm module pitch aligns with adjacent X20 slices for continuous bus and mechanical coupling.
