Product Description:
The X20AI4636 analog input module is produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It digitizes low-level process currents or voltages received from connected sensors. The module forwards the resulting values to a PLC through the X20 backplane bus, allowing the machine controller to monitor process conditions in real time. These measurements can be used for closed-loop control, alarm monitoring, data collection, and automated sequence adjustments.
This unit provides 4 differential input channels, allowing one module to handle multiple transducers while keeping panel wiring compact. Each channel uses a 16-bit sigma-delta converter, which provides 65,536 discrete steps for detailed signal measurement. Voltage sources, including potentiometric position sensors, can be connected across the full ±10 V range. Loop-powered transmitters are accepted over the 0 to 20 mA range, and internal scaling allows the controller to distinguish between voltage and current measurement modes. The module also includes support for oversampling, allowing it to capture multiple samples within the primary task cycle. This capability can improve the observation of rapid signal changes and permits collected samples to be averaged before the controller processes the measurement.
When installed horizontally on a rail, the module operates within a temperature range of -25 to 60 °C. Vertical mounting reduces natural convection around the electronics, so the permitted temperature range becomes -25 to 50 °C. The module can operate at elevations up to 2000 m above sea level, covering most industrial plant locations without derating. Installation is restricted to an enclosed control cabinet, which protects the electronics from conductive dust and unintended contact. The cabinet also provides the physical clearances and controlled interior conditions needed for dependable fieldbus isolation, signal conversion, and continuous sampling during machine operation.
