The X20AI4632 is an analog input module produced by B & R Automation for machines built around the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. Installed on an X20 backplane beside CPU and communication cards, this unit supplies the controller with low-level voltage or current measurements from field transmitters. By converting these signals into digital values, it supports closed-loop control, condition monitoring, and data logging tasks that are common in industrial automation systems.
This module accepts 4 analog inputs, allowing a single slot to capture multiple process variables such as pressure, temperature, or flow. Each channel provides a 16-bit resolution, so the numerical output spans 65,536 discrete steps and reduces quantization error during setpoint calculations. For loop-powered sensors, the current terminals read signals across a 0–20 mA range, while voltage sources are handled across a ±10 V range; these ranges match common industrial transducer standards and simplify wiring. An integrated oscilloscope function records raw sample streams directly inside the module, allowing noise and transient events to be diagnosed without external measurement equipment.
