Product Description:
B&R Automation manufactures the X20AI4222, an analog input module in the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The unit mounts on an X20 backplane and digitizes single-ended or differential voltage feedback from field sensors and actuators for the PLC. By translating continuous signals into digital values, it supports closed-loop control, data logging, and alarm routines across packaging lines, material-handling conveyors, and similar industrial equipment. Because it accepts either single-ended or differential voltage inputs, the module can be adapted to sensor types that use different wiring methods. Its slice form factor supports compact distributed I/O stations on POWERLINK and other B&R real-time networks, helping analog signals be collected close to the machine process.
Its converter delivers a resolution of 13-bit, so each reading is quantized into 8192 discrete steps that improve proportional control accuracy. The board offers 4 input channels, enabling simultaneous sampling of multiple transducers without expanding the rack. Every channel supports a ±10 V range, which matches common process transmitters and potentiometric position sensors. The four-channel format also allows related feedback values and reference voltages to be monitored within the same control station. A housing rated IP20 protects against accidental finger contact and is intended for installation inside a control cabinet. For surge immunity, the card is designed for overvoltage Category II, which suits circuits located downstream of the facility’s main distribution.
Horizontal installation is allowed up to 60 °C, and the electronics will start from temperatures as low as -25 °C after cold storage. Reliable measurement continues to elevations of 2000 m without stated derating of accuracy or conversion speed. The module tolerates up to 95% RH non-condensing humidity, which supports use in damp industrial enclosures when moisture does not condense on the circuitry. Mechanical durability also covers 15 g shock events and 1 g continuous vibration, helping maintain stable signal acquisition when the host machine experiences indexing loads, transport movement, or general cabinet vibration. These operating limits are useful in distributed control cabinets mounted near moving equipment, where temperature swings and vibration are often higher than in central electrical rooms.
