Product Description:
The X20AI1744-3 is an analog measurement module manufactured by B & R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. It occupies a single slice on an X20 backplane and translates microvolt-level signals from resistive bridges into digital values readable by the system CPU. By capturing strain information directly on the machine frame, this module removes the need for separate transmitters and delivers real-time feedback for closed-loop force, tension, or weight control in industrial automation lines.
Its sigma-delta converter resolves input changes with a resolution of 24-bit, supplying 16,777,216 discrete steps over the selected measurement range. The board supports 1 differential channel, so all acquisition resources are dedicated to a single sensor path for a strong signal-to-noise ratio. The front end is factory-scaled for a full-bridge strain gauge, so no external shunt resistors are necessary. A built-in low-pass network limits the bandwidth to 5 Hz, suppressing vibration components outside typical weighing cycles. When mounted inside a control cabinet, the housing meets the IP20 protection rating, so only solid objects larger than 12 mm can reach live parts.
In field installations, the electrical and mechanical tolerances set clear placement rules. The module operates without derating up to 2000 m above sea level and endures ambient moisture as high as 95% RH, provided condensation is prevented. Its circuitry is designed for equipment in Overvoltage Category II, meaning it may be connected to distribution circuits isolated from the mains by protective devices. During transport or accidental impact, the electronics withstand shocks of 15 g, and continuous service vibration is limited to 1 g. These operating limits must be observed when the device is installed in presses, filling machines, or conveyor-mounted scales.
