The VSS122R24.051P-000 smart sensor is built by B & R Automation as part of the VS Smart Sensors series. As a unit in the Smart Sensor product group and the integrated machine vision range, it combines optics, illumination, and processing in a single enclosure for in-line inspection. It provides one active vision function that can check presence, measure features, or guide pick-and-place stages without an external PC. An S-mount fitting accepts interchangeable lenses so the working distance and field of view can be matched to the application. Its integrated design also reduces the need for separate lighting and processing hardware at the inspection point.
Inside the housing, a 12 mm F4 2/3″ lens projects a 37° diagonal field of view onto a sensor that records at 3.5 MP resolution. Full-frame acquisition reaches 43 fps, supporting accurate analysis on fast conveyors and other continuously moving targets. Image streams are evaluated by an 800 MHz processing core based on the Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad-core architecture, and its 1 MB L2 cache speeds repetitive convolution and threshold operations. The standard preprocessing performance designation means background subtraction and filtering are carried out automatically before the user algorithm runs. That arrangement helps reduce cycle time while keeping trigger-to-output timing consistent.
Front optics are protected by glass with an anti-reflective coating, and illumination is supplied by 16 LEDs arranged in four segments that can emit R/B/IR/White spectra through the manufacturer’s LED lens type 2 optic.
