The VSS122R24.032P-000 is a smart camera produced by B & R Automation and is part of the VS Smart Sensors series. It sits within the Smart Sensor product group and the integrated machine vision product range, giving automated equipment an embedded inspection device rather than an external vision controller. The unit can execute one active vision function at a time, and its internal preprocessing performance follows the standard variant supplied by the manufacturer, so no additional acceleration modules are required for baseline image analysis tasks.

The sensor’s computing section is built around a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core processor that runs at 800 MHz and is supported by 1 MB of L2 cache. The four cores share 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, allowing buffering of full images at 3.5 MP resolution without stalling the vision pipeline. At a sustained 43 fps, the device can monitor moderately fast conveyor lines while still executing edge finding, blob analysis, or pattern matching inside the available processing window. Line-sensor operation is not supported, so all tasks rely on the area sensor format provided by the installed imager.

Optical components are supplied with a 6 mm focal length lens rated F3.5 for a 1/1.8-inch sensor and secured through the S-mount thread. The imaging window covers a 37° field of view behind front glass that includes a polarizing filter to suppress glare from reflective parts. Illumination is generated by a ring of 16 LEDs arranged as four individually addressable segments, and output colors are selectable among R / B / IR / White through the controller. The assembly uses LED lens type 2 and cannot be combined with UV emitters or a type 1 lens, in accordance with the stated restriction.
