The VSS122Q21.041P-000 smart sensor is produced by B&R Automation for the VS Smart Sensors series. It combines optics, lighting, and onboard processing in one housing, allowing a single device to perform one active vision task and send inspection results directly to a PLC. This design reduces the need for separate external imaging hardware in compact machine cells. It suits compact automated inspection stations.
Processing is driven by an 800 MHz clock and a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad core CPU. The processor includes 4 cores, which support stable preprocessing during routine inspection cycles. The unit also carries 2 GB of DDR memory and a dedicated 1 MB L2 cache. Together, those resources help buffer image data and intermediate results without slowing normal operation.
Image capture is handled at a native resolution of 1.3 MP and can reach a maximum rate of 90 fps. With the supplied lens fitted, the sensor provides a diagonal field of view of 37°. Illumination comes from a segmented array of 16 LEDs, and each segment can emit red, green, blue, or lime light. The optical path is protected by anti-reflective glass, and the fixed focal length supports repeatable viewing conditions. The standard variant focuses on consistent inspection performance rather than optional line-sensor functions, which are not supported here.
