The VSS122824.051P-000 is a smart sensor produced by B&R Automation within the VS Smart Sensors series. Designed for the Integrated Machine Vision product range, it combines optics, lighting, and processing so that inspection or guidance tasks can be executed directly on the machine without an external controller. Belonging to the Smart Sensor product group, the unit occupies minimal panel space yet delivers complete image evaluation for automated rejection, alignment, or measurement duties in industrial environments. This integration reduces external wiring and lets image analysis occur close to the inspection point, which helps the sensor respond quickly to changing part positions on automated equipment.

Image data are processed by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 quad-core processor; its four cores operate at 800 MHz and share a 1 MB L2 cache while relying on 2 GB of onboard RAM. This hardware supports one active vision function with deterministic timing. The sensor captures scenes at a native resolution of 3.5 MP and transfers complete frames through the pipeline at 43 fps, allowing rapid pass-fail decisions on moving parts. Because the model is not suitable for line-scan duties, it targets area-based inspections instead of continuous web monitoring. All processing stays inside the housing, and results can be shared over the control network without burdening the machine PLC.

The optical assembly is secured by an S-mount and includes an F4 2/3-inch lens with a focal length of 12 mm that yields a 37° horizontal angle of view. A front glass window with an anti-reflective coating preserves contrast, while integrated illumination is provided by 16 LEDs arranged as four segments of four single-color emitters. These LEDs use lens type 2 optics and emit red light peaking at 632 nm to enhance feature extraction on metallic or plastic surfaces. The lighting design, focal length, and peak wavelength are fixed in the standard variant so optical alignment remains consistent across identical installations.
