Product Description:
The VSS122002.14BP-000 is a smart sensor from B & R Automation that belongs to the VS Smart Sensors series and is positioned in the integrated machine-vision product range. It combines image capture, preprocessing, and decision logic in one housing. This allows the unit to perform a single active vision function on the machine without requiring a controller cabinet.
Computational throughput is supplied by an ARM-based processor that runs at 800 MHz. The device uses a Cortex A9 i.MX6 system-on-chip with 4 cores, allowing parallel execution of image acquisition, filtering, and communication tasks. A dedicated 1 MB L2 cache reduces external memory fetches, while 2 GB of DDR3 RAM holds frame buffers and algorithm tables during operation. With a maximum output of 165 fps, the sensor can analyze fast material flows or rapidly moving assemblies without motion blur. The standard preprocessing variant embedded in the firmware carries out histogram balancing, edge detection, and region-of-interest selection before the data are forwarded to the control program running on the onboard cores.
The optical train starts with a 1.3 MP industrial sensor positioned behind a plastic front window that has an anti-reflective coating to limit glare from task lighting. An S-mount allows quick interchange of optics, but the factory configuration ships with a 8 mm, F4 lens that balances depth of field with light collection. A permanent red light filter is integrated in the barrel to suppress stray near-infrared components and to support consistent grayscale values when paired with external ring lights. Because the variant is supplied without LED lighting or an LED lens, users can choose strobes matched to line-sensor workpieces as long as they avoid infrared or type-1 lenses, which are the only restrictions stated for this model.
