The VSS112R22.053P-000 smart sensor is produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the VS Smart Sensors series. As part of the Smart Sensor product group and the integrated machine vision range, the device combines imaging, illumination, and processing in a single enclosure. It is installed on production lines to carry out one active vision function, such as presence verification, part positioning, or code reading, without requiring an external industrial PC. This all-in-one layout reduces the amount of peripheral hardware needed around the inspection point.

The sensor uses a Cortex A9 i.MX6 system-on-chip with 2 cores running at 800 MHz. Each core shares 512 kB of L2 cache, and the unit has 1 GB of system memory to buffer successive images and parameter tables. Local preprocessing reduces network traffic and helps keep response times predictable when the sensor is linked to higher-level PLCs. This onboard processing allows image evaluation to take place directly at the sensing point instead of relying on a separate computing platform. Configuration data and calibration tables are held in working memory during operation so the selected inspection task can run with consistent timing.

Image acquisition reaches 165 fps at a native resolution of 1.3 MP, enabling freeze-frame analysis of fast-moving parts. The optical path provides a 37° horizontal field through a 12 mm F4 lens secured in the S-mount interface, and the 2/3-inch format helps keep vignetting low across the sensor. A glass diffuser protects the front element and evens the output from the integrated lighting ring, which contains 16 LEDs arranged in four multicolored segments. The LED lens type 2 assembly directs red, blue, infrared, or white light onto the target so contrast can be adjusted without external lamps. Line-sensor suitability allows synchronized triggering when the unit inspects webs or continuous material.
