B&R Automation places the VSS112R22.042P-000 in its VS Smart Sensors series, supplying a self-contained vision node for automated inspection and guidance. Classified in the integrated machine vision product range, the unit combines optics, illumination, image capture, and processing so that it can execute one active vision function on the line and return pass/fail or position data directly to the controller. This arrangement eliminates an external PC, shortens cabling, and fits easily beside actuators or conveyors that require point-of-use quality checks.

The device uses a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual-core processor clocked at 800 MHz; its two cores share 512 kB of L2 cache and work with 1 GB of DDR3 RAM to run preprocessing algorithms defined by the standard variant profile. The 1/1.8-inch sensor streams image data at up to 165 fps while retaining the full 1.3 MP resolution, giving the cycle time needed for fast pick-and-place or code verification. The unit also supports line-scan operation, and an S-mount thread allows the factory-supplied lens to be exchanged if application demands change. The glass front window carries a polarizing filter that cuts glare from metal or film packages, and the configuration prevents pairing UV emitters with type 1 LED optics.

Optical coverage uses a field angle of 37° when the factory lens with a focal length of 8 mm and an F4 aperture is installed. Illumination is provided by 16 LEDs arranged in four multicolored segments, and LED lens type 2 directs light through selectable R / B / IR / White channels so exposure can match surface characteristics without external lights. Because preprocessing performance follows the standard variant, the sensor maintains a deterministic response even when the single active function involves shape finding or grayscale comparison.
