The VSS112R21.05BP-000 smart sensor is produced by B&R Automation and belongs to the VS Smart Sensors series in the integrated machine vision product range. It is delivered as a self-contained camera, light source, and processor that can be mounted directly on equipment to perform a single active vision function such as presence verification or code reading. Eliminating the need for a separate industrial PC, the unit fits applications where space is limited and deterministic image processing must be executed at line speed.

Image acquisition and data handling are driven by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core CPU running at 800 MHz. The architecture provides two identical cores, 512 kB of L2 cache, and a standard preprocessing variant that prepares frames for inspection without external assistance. System memory comprises 1 GB of RAM, enabling buffering of high-speed sequences from the 1.3-megapixel CMOS sensor. With an electronic shutter, the camera captures up to 90 fps, which helps minimize motion blur on fast conveyors. Each frame retains full spatial detail because the sensor outputs 1.3 MP per exposure. Line-sensor operation is not supported.

The optical train uses a fixed S-mount lens with a horizontal field of view of 37° and a focal length of 12 mm in an F4, 2/3-inch format to match typical working distances in packaging and assembly cells. Illumination is integrated, and four segments containing 16 LEDs (4 × multicolored) project uniform light through an LED-lens type 2 assembly behind plastic front glass with an anti-reflective coating. The emitter array can switch between R / B / IR / White to optimize contrast on varied targets, but this variant cannot be paired with IR-only emitters or type 1 lenses. The module is supplied as the standard variant, so no additional cooling accessories are required.
