The VSS112R21.051P-000 is a vision-based Smart Sensor manufactured by B&R Automation within the VS Smart Sensors series. The unit merges imaging, illumination, and onboard processing to execute a single active vision function inside compact machinery spaces. By combining lens, sensor, and a dual-core processor, it supplies integrated machine vision so that conveying, assembly, or quality stations can inspect parts and guide motion without an external industrial PC.

The imaging subsystem captures scenes at a native resolution of 1.3 MP, and the CMOS output can be evaluated internally at up to 90 fps for fast part tracking. Vision algorithms run on a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual-core processor clocked at 800 MHz; its architecture supplies 2 cores and a 512 kB L2 cache for deterministic execution of edge detection or code reading. A dedicated memory pool of 1 GB stores frame buffers and look-up tables, while the standard preprocessing variant accelerates grayscale conversion before the active function starts. All computing resources are enclosed in the Smart Sensor housing so cabling carries only fieldbus and power.

The optical system uses a 37° field of view and a 12 mm F4 lens seated in an S-mount for quick exchange. Front glass with an anti-reflective coating reduces stray reflections, and LED lens type 2 concentrates the illumination delivered by 16 LEDs arranged in four multicolored segments. Those segments emit selectable R / B / IR / White light so a single sensor can adapt to shiny metal, colored plastics, or invisible ink. It is not intended for line-sensor use, which reflects its area-scan design. The unit is supplied as the standard variant, and its mount, lighting, and preprocessing are tuned for general inspection tasks.
