The VSS112R21.04CP-000 is a compact vision sensor produced by B&R Automation for the VS Smart Sensors series. Designed for integrated machine vision, the unit combines imaging, processing, and illumination in a single housing so it can verify parts, read codes, or guide motion stages without an external controller. It belongs to the Smart Sensor product group and provides one active vision function that the machine program can use for a dedicated inspection or positioning task. This arrangement keeps image capture and evaluation in the same device, which helps reduce the space needed around the machine station.

At the heart of the device is a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core processor clocked at 800 MHz, supported by 1 GB of RAM and a 512 kB L2 cache, and this combination executes preprocessing algorithms locally. The unit is supplied in the standard variant, which indicates the standard processing configuration for this model. The sensor captures images at 1.3 MP resolution and streams them at up to 90 fps, allowing short exposure times and reduced motion blur on fast-moving conveyors. An internal illumination ring built from 16 LEDs (4 segments with 4 multicolored LEDs each) supplies red, blue, infrared, or white light and can be synchronized with the shutter. With only two cores active, the device maintains deterministic cycle times while preserving thermal headroom.

The optical system provides a horizontal field of view of 37°, created by an 8 mm, F4 1/1.8" lens secured in an S-mount holder for lens changes when application needs change. The lens sits behind a plastic front glass with a polarizing filter that helps suppress reflections from metallic parts. Lighting passes through an LED lens type 2 window and can be switched among R / B / IR / White channels. Ultraviolet emitters are not supported. The sensor also does not support line-sensor modes, so all image data come from the area sensor and move through the internal preprocessing pipeline.
