The VSS112R14.032P-000 is a smart vision sensor produced by B & R Automation for the VS Smart Sensors series. It combines imaging optics, multicolored illumination, and embedded processing in a single device for machine-mounted inspection work. That arrangement allows the sensor to trigger, acquire, and evaluate images for inline inspection or identification on automated machinery. It is suited to applications where image capture and image analysis need to occur directly at the point of use rather than through a separate vision computer.

Computation is handled by a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core processor running at 800 MHz. Its 512 kB L2 cache and standard preprocessing profile allow one active vision function to run without an external PC, which keeps basic image evaluation inside the sensor itself. The sensor uses an optical angle of 74° and captures scenes at 43 fps, providing a field of view and frame rate suited to moderate-speed inspection tasks. Lighting comes from 16 LEDs divided into four multicolored segments, and the wide-beam glass window includes a polarizing filter to reduce glare on reflective surfaces. Available illumination colors include red, blue, infrared, and white, and the design is not compatible with UV emitters or other type 1 LED lenses. The unit is also not intended for line-sensor applications.

The optical path uses a 6 mm focal length lens with an F3.5 1/1.8″ format, and it is mounted in a S-mount holder for a native resolution of 3.5 MP. Image buffers reside in 1 GB of DDR memory, allowing multiple frames to be retained during short processing bursts. This optical and memory arrangement supports detailed feature extraction when the application requires several captured images to remain available during evaluation. The combination is appropriate for moderate-speed inspection cells that rely on area imaging rather than line-scan operation.
