The VSS112Q32.053P-000 is a smart vision sensor manufactured by B&R Automation for the VS Smart Sensors series. As part of the Integrated Machine Vision range, it combines optics, illumination, and onboard processing so a PLC receives evaluated inspection results rather than raw image data. This arrangement reduces network traffic and simplifies installation on production lines where a single active vision function is used for part presence checks, code reading, or orientation verification in industrial automation.
An internal Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual-core processor operates at 800 MHz. Its 2 cores allow parallel handling of image acquisition and feature extraction. A 512 kB L2 cache supports deterministic cycle times, while 1 GB of RAM buffers image frames and temporary results during local preprocessing before the result is passed to the control system. The sensor provides a native resolution of 1.3 MP, and its imaging pipeline supports up to 165 fps, so high-speed webs or rotating parts can be inspected with reduced motion blur. The device is also suitable for line-sensor applications when the inspection task calls for continuous image capture along a moving product path.
Optical and lighting hardware are integrated behind a glass diffuser front window that spreads the emission angle to 23°. The S-mount accepts a C-thread adapter, and the supplied lens assembly provides a 12 mm focal length with an F4 2/3-inch optical format. Illumination uses 16 LEDs arranged in four multicolored segments, and each diode can emit red, green, blue, or lime light through type 3 narrow-beam optics for precise spot coverage. The glass diffuser helps distribute light more evenly across the inspection area, which can improve image consistency on reflective or uneven surfaces. Integrating the optics and lighting in one housing also reduces the need for separate external components around the inspection point.
