The VSS112Q31.072P-000 smart sensor belongs to the VS Smart Sensors series from B & R Automation. Designed for integrated machine vision, it combines optics, lighting, and onboard processing in a compact S-mount housing to inspect parts and guide machines. The unit runs one active vision function and sends pass/fail or position data directly to the control system without requiring an external industrial PC.
Processing is handled by an 800 MHz Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core CPU. A 512 kB shared L2 cache helps reduce memory delays, and 1 GB of RAM buffers images during acquisition and analysis. Together, these resources support up to 90 fps, allowing the sensor to evaluate fast-moving parts while maintaining stable throughput for the control system.
Images are captured at 1.3 MP and pass through a fixed 25 mm F4 lens with a 23° field of view. This combination supports code reading and dimensional checks while keeping the viewing area controlled. An array of 16 LEDs provides red, green, blue, or lime illumination, and the glass front window includes a polarizing filter to reduce glare. Ultraviolet lighting is not supported on this model, so applications that depend on UV contrast need different hardware. It is also not intended for line-sensor operation, making area-based inspection a better fit in practice.
