The VSS112Q24.041P-000 smart camera is supplied by B & R Automation as part of the VS Smart Sensors series. Classified by the manufacturer as a Smart Sensor within the integrated machine vision product range, it combines optics, processing, lighting, and network interfaces inside a compact housing. In an automation cell the unit captures images, executes a selected vision function such as presence detection, dimensional check, or 1-D/2-D code reading, and forwards pass or fail data directly to a PLC over standard industrial Ethernet, eliminating the need for a separate vision controller.

Its on-board processor is a Cortex A9 i.MX6 dual core device clocked at 800 MHz. Two cores partition preprocessing from network tasks, reducing cycle time. A 512 kB L2 cache keeps frequently used data close to the CPU, while 1 GB of RAM provides space for frame buffers and temporary results. The global-shutter CMOS sensor outputs images at a native resolution of 3.5 MP; combined with a maximum throughput of 43 fps, this supports inspection on medium-speed conveyors without motion blur. The standard preprocessing performance variant processes one active vision function that is selected in the application software.

Built-in illumination consists of 16 LEDs (4 segments with 4 multicolored LEDs each) driven through an LED lens type 2 optic. The array can emit R / G / B / Lime light so that contrast can be matched to material colors without external lamps. With a viewing angle of 37°, the sensor covers typical component widths when mounted above a conveyor. An S-mount lens with a focal length of 8 mm and an aperture of F4 on a 1/1.8″ format establishes the required field of view while keeping depth-of-field suitable for parts positioned at variable heights. A glass front window with anti-reflective coating protects the optics from dust and stray reflections.
